SARA’S STORY

“See, I am myself again now.”

“Sara”, a 12-year-old girl, arrived in the United States in 2021 with her 22-year-old brother, while the rest of her family — including her parents and siblings — remained in their home country…Being separated from her family, lacking English language skills, having limited social connections, and facing many adjustment challenges led Sara to experience serious mental health difficulties, including severe depression.

Sara was enrolled in an IILA Program, where a case manager developed a comprehensive care plan focused on addressing her mental health needs, daily life challenges, and community integration.
