Anyone who was ordered to evacuate their home or experienced extended power outages can receive a $770 assistance grant from FEMA (as well as those whose homes were destroyed/damaged). Individuals must be either citizens or qualified immigrants. Even if just one individual in the home is a citizen the home can receive this benefit. FEMA also offers larger aid packages for those who have extensive damage to their homes. These other grants max out at $100,000.00. In addition there is a loan program through FEMA that offers large low interest loans for homeowners and businesses. FEMA only provides grants and loans to those who are uninsured or underinsured. Most renters have no insurance. Call 1-800-621-3362 or register online at www.diasterassistance.gov

Red Cross is taking applications for financial assistance for individuals and households affected by the Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, and Kenneth fires. All Red Cross services, including immediate financial assistance, are available to individuals regardless of Nationality, race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. Red Cross financial assistance is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. The Red Cross is a charity, not a government agency and American citizenship is not required to receive Red Cross assistance.

To apply and confirm eligibility to receive financial assistance, complete the application online or call1-800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767). Enrollment in this program ends FEBRUARY 14.

Disaster Cal-Fresh

D-CalFresh provides up to a one-month worth of food benefits for people impacted by recent Los Angeles area fires regardless of their immigration status. Direct financial assistance is placed on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card which can be used to purchase food at authorized retail stores.

Household Eligibility Requirements for D-CalFresh

• Residency – lived or worked in the disaster area at the time of the disaster.

• Purchase of Food – must have purchased or planned to purchased food during the disaster benefit period.

• Adverse Effect – must have loss income, unable to access resources, or had disaster expenses.

• Income and Resources – Net/take-home income received during the disaster benefit period must not exceed disaster gross limit.  Please see fiscal year limits to determine eligibility and estimated benefit amount by family size. 

How to Apply

Households may apply Monday through Friday on February 10 – 14 and February 17- 19 2025, by phone or in person.  Please be on the lookout for the phone number and locations that will be posted to this link shortly.

Note: Some organizations in California may provide information to federal immigration agencies. If you are uncomfortable sharing your information with the federal government, community organizations may be able to help you. Please call 2-1-1 for help while in Los Angeles.

As these fast-moving flames consume homes, businesses, schools and industrial buildings, legacy asbestos in older structures can be released into the air. The dry winds causing flames to spread faster can also distribute asbestos throughout the region.

Poor air quality from the fires is a health concern for everyone in the area and especially for those with underlying health concerns like a history of malignant mesothelioma or lung cancer.
